Maple laminate flooring

Maple reads lighter and more uniform than oak: fine, even grain, few knots, and a pale cream-to-honey colour that brightens rooms with limited daylight. Laminate reproduces that look with a printed layer under a tough wear surface, so you get the maple appearance without the cost or the sensitivity of real maple, which is one of the harder woods to keep looking new.

This page collects our maple-look laminate from HTBC, Cascade and Shnier.

What to look for

  • AC rating: AC3 for bedrooms, AC4 for busy family homes, AC5 for commercial traffic.
  • Water resistance: most modern laminate cores resist spills for 24 to 72 hours. For bathrooms and laundry rooms, choose vinyl instead.
  • Texture: embossed-in-register surfaces line the texture up with the printed grain, which is what makes laminate read as real wood.
  • Attached underlay: saves buying separate underlay and quietens the floor, which condo boards care about.

Designing with light floors

Maple's pale tone bounces light around, so it suits basements, north-facing rooms and small condos. Because the grain is subtle, dust and pet hair show less than on dark floors, though crumbs show more. Pair it with warm white walls to keep the room from reading cold, and use matte finishes to hide scratches.

Frequently asked questions

Is maple laminate lighter than oak laminate?
Usually, yes. Maple visuals are paler and more uniform, with less grain contrast than oak, which makes rooms feel brighter and calmer.

Is laminate good for a basement?
Yes, with a 6 mil vapour barrier over the concrete slab and a water-resistant core. For rooms that may flood, choose SPC vinyl.

What AC rating do I need?
AC3 for bedrooms and low-traffic rooms, AC4 for a busy household, AC5 for commercial spaces.

Can maple laminate be used with radiant heat?
Most laminate can, up to a floor surface temperature of about 27°C. Check the specification on the product page before ordering.
