Vinyl Flooring — Waterproof Planks, Tiles & Sheets

Vinyl flooring is the workhorse of modern homes: 100% waterproof, scratch-resistant and comfortable underfoot. Yaletown Floor stocks one of the largest vinyl ranges in Canada — SPC rigid-core planks, glue-down luxury vinyl, sheet vinyl and tile formats from COREtec, Tarkett, Cascade, Unifloor and more, with delivery across Canada and select brands shipping to the USA.

How to choose vinyl flooring

Start with the install type. Click-lock SPC floats over almost any flat subfloor and is the DIY favourite — look for a stone-plastic core 4–8 mm thick with attached underlayment for condos. Glue-down LVP/LVT sits lower, handles rolling loads and heavy furniture better, and is the standard for commercial spaces. Sheet vinyl gives a seamless, fully hygienic surface for bathrooms and healthcare. Then check the wear layer: 12 mil suits bedrooms, 20 mil is the safe choice for busy family homes and pets, 28 mil+ is commercial grade. Budget-wise, quality vinyl typically runs $2–$4/sq ft for residential SPC and $4–$7 for premium designer lines — and because vinyl needs no acclimation or finishing, installed cost stays well below hardwood.

Narrow it down by look and build: luxury vinyl plank, SPC rigid core, wood-look vinyl, glue-down or commercial-grade vinyl. Order up to three free samples to see the colour in your own light before you buy.

Frequently asked questions

Is vinyl flooring waterproof?

Yes - vinyl planks, tiles and sheets are 100% waterproof through their full thickness. Seams resist everyday household spills; for full bathrooms and laundry rooms, silicone-seal the perimeter for extra protection.

What is the difference between SPC, LVP and LVT?

SPC is vinyl plank with a rigid stone-polymer core - the most dimensionally stable and the best choice over slightly uneven subfloors. LVP is luxury vinyl plank (wood look), LVT is luxury vinyl tile (stone or ceramic look). All three are waterproof.

What wear layer thickness do I need?

12 mil suits bedrooms and low-traffic rooms, 20 mil is the safe choice for busy family homes with pets, and 28 mil or more is commercial grade. Wear layer matters more than total plank thickness for durability.

Should I choose click-lock or glue-down vinyl?

Click-lock floats over the subfloor and is the DIY favourite - no adhesive, installable in a weekend. Glue-down sits lower, handles rolling loads and heavy furniture better, and is the standard for commercial spaces.

Can vinyl flooring go in basements and over radiant heat?

Yes to both. SPC vinyl installs directly over concrete and handles seasonal basement moisture; most modern vinyl is rated for radiant heat up to about 27-29°C floor temperature - check each product page.

Do you ship vinyl flooring across Canada and to the USA?

We deliver across Canada from our Vancouver warehouse - Lower Mainland in 1-3 days, the rest of Canada in 4-8 business days. US-eligible brands like Tarkett, COREtec and Grandeur are collected on our vinyl flooring USA page.
