Smokestone 1160: Grey With the Chill Taken Out
Smokestone 1160 solves a problem that comes up constantly in senior care, childcare and hospitality projects: the specification calls for a practical mid-grey, but a true cool grey makes the space feel institutional. Smokestone is grey with a taupe undertone smoked through it — a warmer, softer read that pairs naturally with oak veneer, brass ironmongery and warm-white lighting instead of fighting them. It is the difference between a dayroom that feels like a lounge and one that feels like a clinic.
None of that softness costs anything in performance. Smokestone carries the same EN ISO 10874 Class 34 heavy commercial and Class 43 light industrial rating as every other shade in the range, and the same 2.0mm homogeneous construction. The duotone chip and marbleized highlights disguise everyday traffic well in this tonal range, which is precisely why warm mid-greys are so heavily specified in facilities that cannot close for deep cleaning.
Practical Detail
Because the sheet is 2m wide and comes in rolls up to 20m long, most corridors and rooms can be laid with very few seams — and the seams that do occur are hot-air welded with a matching rod into a continuous surface. Take the material up the wall as coved skirting and there is no floor-wall junction for water or contaminants to sit in. The PUR polyurethane surface finishes the job: no polish on handover, no polish ever, and a floor that responds to nothing more elaborate than a neutral cleaner and a damp mop.
