XL Flooring is a Canadian luxury vinyl brand that sells its range in nine clearly separated lines. That focus is the reason to look at it: instead of one catalogue with hundreds of near-identical planks, you choose a line by wear layer, size and warranty, then choose a colour inside it. We list 64 XL Flooring colours, from $2.69 to $4.89 per sq ft, and this guide explains how the lines differ so you can pick the right one for each room.
1. The XL Flooring range at a glance
Every line is a PVC laminate luxury vinyl with a brushed emboss surface. The numbers that actually separate them are the wear layer, the plank size and the warranty.
| Line | Colours | Size | Thickness | Wear layer | Price / sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Designer Select | 8 | 7" x 48" | 5 mm | 20 mil | $3.69 |
| Drop & Done | 4 | 6" x 48" | 5 mm | 20 mil | $4.89 |
| Easyplank | 8 | 7" x 48" | 5 mm | 12 mil | $3.49 |
| EZ Fit | 8 | 7" x 48" | 5 mm | 20 mil | $3.69 – $3.99 |
| Flexiplank | 8 | 7" x 48" | 5 mm | 20 mil | $3.99 |
| Legacy | 8 | 7" x 48" | 5 mm | 20 mil | $3.69 |
| XXL Large Plank | 4 | 9" x 60" | 5 mm | 12 mil | $3.59 |
| EasyTile | 8 | 12" x 24" | 5 mm | 12 mil | $3.49 |
| Foundation | 8 | 7" x 48" | 3 mm | 20 mil | $2.69 |
2. Wear layer: 12 mil or 20 mil
The wear layer is the clear top coat that takes the scratches. A 12 mil layer is the usual residential standard and is fine for bedrooms, living rooms and most family homes. A 20 mil layer is a commercial-grade figure and is the better buy for kitchens, hallways, entries, rentals, offices and any home with a large dog.
The price gap between the two is small. Easyplank (12 mil) is $3.49 and EZ Fit (20 mil) is $3.69 for the same 7" x 48" plank, so for a busy floor the extra $0.20 per square foot is usually worth paying.
3. The plank lines
Designer Select is the premium line: a 20 mil wear layer with the longest warranty in the range, 35 years residential and 20 years commercial, and a tight-fit installation system. It is the one to choose when you want the floor to be the finished article, such as a main living area you plan to keep for years.
Drop & Done is a narrower 6" x 48" plank with an acoustic absorbing backing, the most expensive line at $4.89 and the one to look at in condos and apartments where footfall noise matters. Check your strata's sound requirement before relying on any backing, because the rule applies to the whole floor assembly.
Easyplank is the value choice for low-traffic rooms at $3.49. EZ Fit and Legacy sit at $3.69 with a 20 mil wear layer, and Flexiplank at $3.99 adds its own colour range with the same 20 mil build. For most people comparing wood-look vinyl, these four lines cover the whole decision: pick Easyplank to save money, EZ Fit, Legacy or Flexiplank when the floor will be walked on hard.
XXL Large Plank is a 9" x 60" plank. Fewer, longer boards mean fewer joints and a more open look in a big room, at $3.59 with a 12 mil wear layer. It suits large living areas and open-plan homes where wear is moderate.
4. EasyTile and Foundation
EasyTile is a 12" x 24" tile format in eight stone, concrete and marble looks, including Arctic Breeze, Canyon Clay, Desert Sand and Black Pearl. It has a 12 mil wear layer and covers 20 sq ft per carton at $3.49. It is the line to choose for bathrooms, kitchens and entries where you want a tile look without the weight, cost or cold of ceramic. You can see the whole range on our XL Flooring EasyTile page.
Foundation is the budget line at $2.69: a thinner 3 mm plank with a 20 mil wear layer and a micro-bevel edge, packed at 35 sq ft per carton. It carries a 10 year warranty, so it is best for rentals, basements, secondary rooms and flips where the price per square foot decides the job.
5. Dryback and installation
Most XL lines use a dryback backing: a plain vinyl back with no attached underlay and no click-lock profile. That keeps the plank thin and stable, but it means the floor relies on the installation method XL specifies rather than on locking boards together. XL publishes a separate installation guide for each line, including loose-lay instructions, and Designer Select uses a tight-fit system. Follow the guide for the specific line and prepare the subfloor accordingly: clean, dry, flat and free of ridges.
The spec sheets we reviewed do not state a waterproof rating, so we do not make one for you. Vinyl itself is not damaged by water, but standing water can still get under the seams of any plank floor, so use sealed wet-area details around tubs and in bathrooms.
6. Which line suits your room
| Room | Start with |
|---|---|
| Main living area you will keep | Designer Select |
| Condo or apartment | Drop & Done |
| Kitchen or hallway with heavy traffic | EZ Fit, Legacy or Flexiplank |
| Bedroom or low-traffic room | Easyplank |
| Large open-plan space | XXL Large Plank |
| Bathroom, entry or tile look | EasyTile |
| Rental, basement or tight budget | Foundation |
