Most engineered hardwood is a thin sawn veneer glued to plywood. Bjelin does something different: its Woodura floors use real wood that has been processed into a powder and fused onto a wood-based core under heat and pressure. The result looks like oak, feels like oak, and takes knocks better than a standard veneer floor. This guide explains how Woodura works, which Bjelin collection suits which room, and what to budget.
1. What Woodura actually is
A conventional engineered plank is a 2 to 4 mm sawn veneer on plywood. Sawing wastes a large share of each log, and the softer summer growth in the grain is what dents when you drop something.
Woodura starts from wood that has been ground to a powder, which is then fused onto a wood-based core. Bjelin says the finished surface is up to three times stronger than traditional engineered hardwood, and that the process uses considerably less slow-grown timber for the same floor area. Practically, that means the floor holds up better to chair legs, pet claws and dropped pans than the veneer floors it competes with, and the whole plank is only 11.2 mm thick.
Every Bjelin floor we carry is finished in a matte surface and joins with the 5G Dry glue-free click system, so it installs floating, without adhesive, including the herringbone patterns.

Shared specs across the range: 11.2 mm total thickness, a 0.6 mm hardened Woodura surface, matte finish, 5G Dry click, and a limited lifetime structural warranty on the XL and XXL collections (20 years on Herringbone 3.0, which uses the Välinge Compositek core and a Pro Matte Class 33 surface).

Choose Bjelin when you want a hard-wearing wide plank that installs quickly over concrete, especially in condos and busy family rooms. Choose a thick-veneer wide plank engineered floor if refinishing the floor decades from now matters more to you than day-to-day dent resistance.
4. Installation and radiant heat
- Floating, no adhesive: 5G Dry planks angle in and lock down, so a room goes together fast and the floor can be lifted later.
- Over concrete: ideal for condos and basements on a dry, flat slab; use a vapour barrier.
- Radiant heat: approved when you stay within the manufacturer's floor temperature limit.
- Subfloor flatness: wide planks bridge dips instead of following them, so level the subfloor first.
- Condos: pair with an acoustic underlay that meets your building's IIC requirement, and submit the assembly test sheet for approval.
- Herringbone: order 10–15% extra for the angled perimeter cuts.
5. What Bjelin costs

6. Care
Sweep or vacuum with a hard-floor head, damp-mop with a wood-floor cleaner, and wipe spills promptly. Use felt pads under furniture and wide castors on chairs. Keep indoor humidity within the range in the installation guide through the heating season, and use blinds on strong south-facing windows, as with any wood floor.
